NATURAL RESOURCES FROM OCEAN

Marine Resources

  • The world's seas encompass over 70% of the Earth's surface. As a result, they contain a large number and variety of geological processes.
  • These processes, over time, culminate in the production of various minerals, which, when proven usable by humans, constitute marine mineral resources.
  • Salt, magnesium, fresh water, and other minerals are examples of minerals harvested for human use today.
  • Because the majority of these resources are employed in our daily activities, it is easy to see why they are significant.

Most Important Marine Resources
The following are some of the most important marine resources:

Salt

  • The molecular name for salt is sodium chloride.
  • It is one of the most prevalent minerals found in ocean water.
  • Salt can be gathered either directly or through mines, depending on where it is found.

Potassium

  • Potassium is another element that is easy to find, but it can't be directly removed like salt can.

Sand

  • The seashores can be thought of as sand deposits that have been left behind.
  • Today, sand is utilized for a variety of reasons, including building, pleasure, and diverse businesses such as glass production.

Limestone and Gypsum

  • Limestones are calcium-carbonate-containing rocks.
  • The construction sector also makes use of it.
  • Gypsum, or calcium sulfate hydrate, is also used in building and is converted into Plaster of Paris (PoP).

Manganese Nodules

  • These nodules are incredibly rich in metals.
  • They have a significant potential to be exploited as a resource by humans once technology to capture these important metals is developed.

Gold and Diamonds

  • Molten iron sank to the earth's core during its formation to form the core.
  • This destroyed the great bulk of the world's valuable metals, including gold.
  • Furthermore, deep-source volcanic eruptions produced diamonds in the mantle and brought them to the surface in all commercial diamond resources on Earth.
  • These are two of the most expensive rocks.

Water

  • Although there have been difficulties in the extraction of fresh water from the oceanic salty water, the advancements in technology should be able to harness the most important resource for the survival of living beings to a large extent.

Oil and Gas

  • Although we have been successful in some of our efforts, a lot has still not been found. When it is, it will help with fuel shortages to some extent so that we can meet the needs of a growing population.

Coal

  • Coal is made up of volatile matter, carbon, ash, and moisture.
  • It was discovered in sedimentary layers.
  • Coal reserves outnumber petroleum and oil reserves by a factor of six.
