TYPES OF ADJECTIVES
1. Descriptive Adjectives: These paint vivid pictures, telling us how something is (size, color, shape, quality, etc.).
- Examples: The towering oak tree stood majestic against the crimson sunset. (Towering, majestic, and crimson are some of the qualities.)
2. Proper Adjectives: Derived from proper nouns, they capitalize and specify origin or affiliation.
- Examples: the French Revolution; Shakespearean theater; Victorian architecture. (French, Shakespearean, and Victorian highlight specific origins.)
3. Demonstrative Adjectives: They point out specific things.
- Examples: this book, that painting, these cookies, those mountains. (This, that, these, and those represent specific nouns.)
4. Interrogative Adjectives: They ask questions about nouns.
- Examples:
- What color is the sky?
- Which cake is yours?
- Whose bag is this? (what, which, whose ask questions about nouns)
5. Possessive Adjectives: They show ownership or relationship.
- Examples: my book, her dream, their house, its bark.
- (My, her, their, and its indicate possession.)
6. Numeral Adjectives: These tell us the quantity or order of something.
- Examples: three children, the second option, a few days. (three, second, few specify quantity or order)
